Crash & Burn Video Completed!




Today I finished the new Form One video 'Crash & Burn'. Mastering to Beta tomorrow.
Will hopefully get clearance to post it in a week.

Crash & Burn in production





Yesterday we shoot parts of the new Form One video Crash & Burn. This time I'm collaborating with Syskonen Brogren who will make some very nice stop animtion sequences.

'Form One - Falling Down' Breakdown

So I will try to explain the technique I used doing one of the shoots in this video. Two of the different locations use this technique. In the scrap yard sequence I use different retusched 2D layers that is offset along the Z axis. The 'under the bridge' sequence is made in Maya using camera projection.




First of all me and the still photographer Marcus Bergman went location scouting. It means metting up early morning and drive around in my car all day until the sun sets. After finding the right spots we make a shedule and try to figure out at what angel the sun is at what time and watching the weather forecasts several times a day.

At the location we started with the Background plate before the model arrives. When you use vantage point it is important to gather as much information as possible, not finding the exact angel you want. So don't come to close to the ground and don't use a short depth of field. That way you have more options in post.



After the background plate we moved on with the model, but I countinue with the background and come back to the model shoot later.
Using Vanishing Point in Photoshop I mapped all the different surfaces carefully. It can be hard to get it right so don't give up on the first try. Then export to after affects.
VP will generate a bunch of PNG's and a .vpe file. It's agood idea to retusch the png's to extend the set, making it possible to move the camera around more.

Then import the vpe file in after effects and you're ready to rock and roll! Well, maybe not. Try out some camera moves and see how it all works out. You will probably have to go back to photoshop and edit some more. How the scene looks in After effects:





Ida Andersson was shoot in the same location. We used Battery flashes.



In Photoshop mask out the background and retusch the body.



In After Effects the Puppet tool was used to animate the still.



When the scen is set up I added 3D particles and flares. Finish of with a nice CC. I used Magic Bullet Colorista.
